Investment fund management is not much different from simply investment management or asset management. Investment fund is large investment portfolio and the composition of that portfolio depends on particular fund investment strategy. Each investment fund has its own strategy that describes the main boundaries for asset allocation and other main characteristics. 

Some investment funds are actively managed funds while others represent passive investment. Management of those two types’ investment funds is completely different, because active management requires much more human work and different investment management systems are applied. 

Active investment fund management has many stages: security screening, securities (mostly stocks) picking, stock valuation, risk measurement, trading, macro analysis and many other functions. That makes investment management process quiet costly because of high investment management salaries in investment management business.
