Publicly Owned Corporation

A publicly owned corporation is a company, which has its shares listed on the stock exchange. A publicly owned companies normally are medium or large scale corporations owned by a large number of investors (both individual and institutional investors). In developed markets most of the big corporations are publicly owned companies, because it is easier for listed companies to raise capital or transfer owned shares than for closely held corporations.
